Bachelor of Psychology Hons (First Class), PhD in Clinical Psychology, Member of the Australian Psychological Society (MAPS).
I am a Clinical Psychologist who has been working with clients since 2006 after studying as a mature-age student.
I have worked in various settings, including private practice, universities, medical settings, prisons, the Older Person’s Unit and Burns ward at the Royal Brisbane Hospital, and the Diabetes Ward at the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
I have experience with a variety of conditions, including anxiety, depression, grief and loss, diabetes management, LGBTQi issues, emotion dysregulation and anger management. I have worked extensively with older persons struggling with psychological concerns and carers of people suffering from dementia.
I have a specific interest in difficulties associated with regulating emotion. I completed a PhD investigating anger and resentment and have an in-depth knowledge of the role of emotions, what they are, and ways to work with them more effectively in your life.
For over ten years, I taught communication skills to current and prospective health professionals at both an undergraduate and postgraduate level. I have a keen interest in promoting improved communication with others, emotion regulation, and quality of life.
I use a variety of therapies, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT Therapy), Schema Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT Therapy), and Mindfulness/Compassion-based therapies.
I am a member of the Australian Psychological Society and was the Queensland Chair of the Australian Association for Cognitive and Behaviour Therapy for two years.
